Nellie Palacios, the not so happy version
MUGSHOT: Nellie Palacios, the not so happy version

Look at that mug, people. Does that look like the face of crazy? The kind of crazy that would break into your home, steal your shit and kill your cat after a breakup? Meet 43-year-old Nellie Palacios — from what police are saying, yes, she is that kind of crazy.

According to police, on the afternoon of January 2, Palacios, accompanied by her new boyfriend, entered her ex-boyfriend’s home and started grabbing paintings from the walls and stashed ‘em in her car. She also apparently choked the man’s cat a bit before stabbing it with a kitchen knife.

The new boyfriend, who apparently believed he was at a home of one of the woman’s cousins, called police to report the woman’s erratic behavior. I’m assuming he got a little wigged out once the stabbing commenced….

When police arrived on scene, the new boyfriend informed them he had primarily been outside while Palacios was robbing the place, but did admit to seeing Palacios stab the cat and stash the body in an igloo type doghouse in the yard. The knife used in the alleged attack was found underneath the dog house.

Palacio told police she stabbed the cat in self defense after it attacked her. I’m guessing cats don’t particularly like being choked, and will fight a bitch for some air.

Several paintings and other items from the home were found in her car. After being treated for wounds suffered during the tussle with the kitty, Palacio was booked on charges of animal cruelty and burglary.

Pssst, new boyfriend….. run. Run fast and run far.

Monica Spear Mootz, 34

A British man and his beauty queen ex-wife have been murdered in front of their five-year-old daughter in a horrific robbery in Venezuela.

Thomas Berry, 39, from London and 2004’s Miss Venezuela, Monica Spear Mootz, 29, who is also an American citizen, were gunned down by thieves after their car ground to a halt on the Puerto-Cabello to Valencia highway.

Armed men came up the car as they waited for a repair truck, and the terrified couple locked themselves in their Toyota Corolla. But the robbers opened fire through the windows.

Nightmare: A friend of Berry said he had spoken to him on Sunday and as they were having a great time

The bodies of Mr Berry and Ms Spear were found in the car with their daughter, who was injured in the leg.

It is not yet known if the child, who is now under the protection of the authorities and is believed to be called Maya, was shot by assailants.

Ms Spear was a famous TV actress following her pageant victory and appeared in a number of telenovelas (South American soap operas), with her roll in ‘Forbidden Passions’ the most notable.

She was well-known throughout the Spanish-speaking world as a result.

She was a graduate of the University of Central Florida, had American citizenship and her parents live in Orlando, Florida.

Mr Berry, who describes himself as an independent travel consultant in an online profile, lives in the capital Caracas, reports El Universal. He moved to Florida after he was shot 15 years ago, but couldn’t resist the lure of the country he loved.

It is understood they separated but were still close friends and holidayed together for the sake of their daughter.

His parents are understood to be in Puerto Cabello having identified the bodies.

Luis Dominguez, who ran an adventure tour company with Berry told NBC he spoke to him on Sunday. ‘They were having the greatest time’, he said. ‘He said, I’ll see you soon’.

A friend of the family, Carlos Drakkar, 38, a Colombian graphic designer who lives in Caracas, said: ‘This is a very difficult moment for all of us to deal with. We are doing all we can to help out friends in this difficult moment. These things happen all too often in this country. Something has to change.’

Venezuela’s public prosecutor has appointed two separate investigators to the case, while the CICPC, Venezuela’s SWAT police force unit, has been deployed to nearby slums for answers.

Commissioner Daniel Alvarez , head of the CICPC’s homicide division, promised ‘fast results in this awful case.’

The Foreign Office say it is aware of the reports and are looking into it with the assistance of its offices in Venezuela.

A spokesman said: ‘We are aware of reports of the death of a British national on 6 January in Venezuela.

‘We stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family.’

Venezuela is one the most violent places in Latin America and armed robberies, carjackings and kidnappings are rife.

The annual murder rate in Caracas alone is an average of 80 murders per 100,000 people, the third highest in the world.

Majority of murders occur in the slums where police presence is minimal. Eastern Caracas is home to South America’s largest slum, named Petare with more than two million residents, where the police to public ratio is 1 officer to every 3,000 people.

There were an estimated 24,000 murders in 2013, one of the world’s highest homicide rates. It has tripled in the previous decade.

Gun ownership is also high, with an estimated 15m unlicensed weapons in circulation.

Kim Kardashian stepped out in Beverly Hills Monday and left little to the imagination in a curve-hugging outfit.

The 33-year-old beauty hit the town Jan. 6 for some shopping at Barneys New York and Cartier. Kardashian was decked out in a white crop top, a high-waisted mint pencil skirt and a pair of coral pumps for the outing. She wore her hair in loose waves and flashed her stunning engagement ring as she made her way past the hoard of onlookers surrounding the area.

She got a lousy surprise in the form of a parking ticket, left on her Rolls Royce while she shopped in Cartier.

Despite this bad luck, the reality starlet still managed to pay it forward. Kardashian was photographed handing a valet a $100 tip when she got in her car at the end of the day before driving away.

Albert Einstein said that “Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.” Forget about disease transmission, for a kiss is truly a pleasurable thing and Einstein has to say that it is special. But it is more than that; kissing has several benefits, especially to the health and well-being of a person. Here are ten benefits of kissing (specifically a kiss between lovers):

1. Kissing burns calories. Not that kissing is the ultimate fat-burning activity! But kissing can burn as much as 2 to 6 calories a minute. It may not be much, but two hours of continuous kissing can burn calories equivalent to one pound steak. It can also double your metabolic rate. Research claims that three passionate kisses a day (at least lasting 20 seconds each) will cause you to lose an entire extra pound! It’s time to start that kissing diet!

2. Kissing tones the face and strengthens facial muscles. You use 30 muscles while kissing and the smooching helps keep the checks tight, preventing them from being baggy and loose. A torrid French kiss exercises all the underlying muscles of the face. The tension in the muscles caused by a passionate kiss helps smooth the skin and increases the circulation.

3. Kissing is a known stress-reliever. Passionate kissing relieves tension, reduces negative energy and produces a sense of well being, lowering your cortisol “stress” hormone. Kissing is also like meditation. “Kissing is an exciting excursion into the sensual,” says psychologist and clinical sexologist Joy Davidson. “If we happen to be connecting with someone we care about, it produces a sense of well-being and a kind of full-bodied pleasure.” Hence, a kiss can suppress anxiety and produce physiological changes that meditation can do.

4. Kissing is also good for the heart, as it creates an adrenaline which causes your heart to pump more blood around your body. Frequent kissing has scientifically been proven to stabilize cardiovascular activity, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol.

5. Kissing is relaxing. According to scientists, kissing can increase the oxytocin and endorphin levels. Oxytocin is the body’s natural calming chemical while endorphin is the fell-good chemical. The endorphins produced by kissing are 200 times more powerful than morphine. Swapping spit is also noted to increase dopamine, which aids in feelings of romantic attachment.

6. Kissing helps flush out bacteria. During kissing, the extra saliva washes bacteria off the teeth, consequently helping break down oral plaque. This means kissing can help prevent tooth decay and cavities. During a kiss, natural antibiotics are also secreted in the saliva. Furthermore, the saliva contains a type of anesthetic that helps relieve pain.

7. Kissing boosts immunity. All that swapping spit exchanges germs, too, which forces your body to produce antibodies to prevent you from getting sick. It’s like getting a vaccination, so keep the kisses coming in order to keep you healthy.

According to the study by the journal Medical Hypotheses, kissing can increase women’s immunity from Cytomegalovirus. This virus is transmitted through mouth to mouth contract and can cause infant blindness and other birth defects if the mother is a carrier during pregnancy. However, it is relatively harmless for adults. Thus, kissing can be a way to pass along bugs, thereby strengthening the body’s defenses.

8. Kissing is a “mate assessment tool” as described by anthropologist Helen Fisher. The most sensitive feelings can be picked up by the lips, cheeks, tongue and nose. Out of 12 cranial nerves, five of them are picking up information from around the mouth. Thus, you can really hear, see and feel the person you are kissing. Kissing is not anymore just a “kissing” activity, but more of an expression of who you are, what you want and what you can give.

Moreover, kissing has been viewed by many researchers as biology’s way of determining which people are most compatible with genetically. “At the moment of the kiss, there are hard-wired mechanisms that assess health, reproductive status and genetic compatibility,” says Gordon G. Gallup Jr., a professor of evolutionary psychology at the State University of New York at Albany. “Therefore, what happens during that first kiss can be a make-or-break proposition.”

9. Kissing can relieve allergies. In a research conducted in Japan, it has been shown that kissing can lower down the body’s allergic reaction to pollen. “What they did was study the blood levels of IgE, an allergy antibody before and after 30 minutes of kissing their partner,” Dr. Lynda Kabbash of Harvard Vanguard said.

Researchers say kissing also helped relieve symptoms in patients with dermatitis, a skin condition triggered by allergies.

10. Kissing keeps you younger. This is an after effect of exercising your facial muscles and toning them through kissing. The relaxing effect of kissing can also help fight out stress and you will remain happy and younger-looking. Likewise, kissing improves self-esteem. It makes you feel appreciated and helps your state of mind.

couple praying love women

Firstly, communication should not be a problem, as for the women there is nothing as appealing as a man, who listens to them. If a man wants to tell them something they wouldn’t mind knowing it but face-to-face is always preferable and if that is not possible men can contact them via texts, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Secondly, complimenting women is nice, as sometimes they do need a bit of verbal assurance.

Phrases that might help men in a crisis: “Your hair looks awesometonight!” “Is that a new dress?” “You blitzed it in that tennis match/speech/insert other awesomeness here!”

Thirdly, a man should not be a penny pincher instead he should pay on his first date if they want to see the lady again.

Fourthly, they should organise their social life and there are two obvious problem areas there:

First, the man who never does anything off his own bat, women may find it nice if they went and did something interesting occasionally.

Second, a male who simply does too much, women would like that person to take out some time for them.

Fifthly, some thought should be put by men in the presents that they give to women.

Sixthly, men should try to get a bit stylish and should invest in a fool-proof man outfit: nice jeans, a T-shirt and unscuffed trainers and for more smart-casual occasions, substitute in a good quality shirt and some leather shoes.

Lastly, when men don’t know the direction of a place they should admit it and not pretend about knowing it.

Two Goodyear bosses held captive by workers spent the night inside a factory in northern France that the company wants to close.

The plant, which Goodyear has tried to sell or shutter for five years, has become an emblem of France’s labor issues, and the seizure Monday morning of the two managers — the plant’s director and human resources chief — resurrected the once-common practice of boss-napping.

UPDATE: 10:03 a.m. — The AP reports that the two managers were freed under French police protection after being held captive for two days.

Sylvain Niel, a labor lawyer who has worked on similar issues, said the tactic fell away because any agreements under pressure were later voided in courts.

“It’s a reaction of despair,” Niel said. “They have no room to maneuver in the closing of the factory.”

The Amiens plant has an especially contentious past. Goodyear’s attempts to close it have been stalled by violent protests with huge tire bonfires, government concerns and France’s prolonged layoff procedures.

Boss-nappings typically have lasted from a few hours to a couple of days. They are punishable under French law by five years in prison and a 75,000-euro ($102,000) fine — as long as the boss goes free in under a week.

But generally the workers are not prosecuted, and in many cases they have tried to make the manager’s time in captivity more comfortable.

Mickael Wamen, a union leader, told the Courrier Picard newspaper that the managers had refused offers of mattresses and blankets overnight.

“Things were sometimes animated, sometimes calm, but without any meanness,” Michel Dheilly, the captive plant manager, told reporters allowed inside the factory.

The other captive manager, Bernard Glesser, was less sanguine, saying he would not give any statements under duress.

Niel said police rarely get involved, hoping to avoid inflaming the situation.

“These are basically honest people, in despair,” he said.

Is this Bigfoot? (Photo by Emily Trube, 1080 KRLD)

rickdyerbigfoot

Hunter Rick Dyer says he shot and killed a Bigfoot, and is now preparing to take its body on a tour of America

It’s kind of a step up from the boy who cried wolf. In this case, it’s a man who cried Bigfoot.

There’s one big difference between this story and the many others where people claim to have seen the dubious tall, hairy creature that allegedly roams the forested regions of many countries. Dyer has previous Bigfoot-related credibility problems.

According to KSAT.com, Dyer has finally released an image of a beast he claimed to kill near San Antonio, Texas, in September 2012.

The only prior evidence Dyer has ever released until now about this incident was a short, grainy video that he claims shows a Bigfoot standing right outside of his tent near a wooded area on the outskirts of San Antonio. His website contains a haphazardly written account of the alleged Bigfoot encounter and subsequent killing of the animal. In fact, the date of the report is carelessly listed as “September 6, 20102.”

Perhaps it’s really about some distant future Bigfoot encounter.

In an interview from February 2013, Dyer said, “Bigfoot is 100 percent real. There’s no question about that. I’m going to go down in history as the best Bigfoot tracker in the world,” reported San Antonio’s KSAT-TV.

Dyer baited that San Antonio Bigfoot.

“I nailed … pork ribs from the WalMart down the street to the side of the tree, and low [sic] and behold, he came and started eating the pork ribs off the tree,” Dyer said.

It was while the creature was allegedly feasting that Dyer supposedly grabbed his cell phone and videotaped him/her.

Here’s that video, including enhancements that attempt to clarify the creature.

When the animal reportedly returned, Dyer claims he shot it. He then says he transported the dead Bigfoot to an undisclosed location.

Dyer now says that he had scientific tests performed on the hairy body, “from DNA tests to 3D optical scans to body scans. It is the real deal. It’s Bigfoot and Bigfoot’s here, and I shot it and now I’m proving it to the world.”

But, where are those DNA and 3D optical test results?

The problem with all of this is a previous case where Dyer was apparently involved in what turned out to be a Bigfoot hoax in 2008. An alleged Bigfoot body — that Dyer and an associate claimed to have — was exposed as a rubber ape suit.

Credibility is supposed to be the most important thing if you’re trying to convince the world of something as questionable as Bigfoot. And when you fool the public once, it’s not easy to get back into their graces.

Dyer says he’ll hold a news conference shortly to reveal the full Bigfoot body and test results.

Let’s not hold our collective breath.

Nicholas Simmons disappeared from his parents’ house in a small upstate New York town on New Year’s Day, leaving behind his wallet, cellphone and everything else.

Four days later, an Associated Press photographer, looking for a way to illustrate unusually cold weather, snapped his picture as he warmed himself on a steam grate a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol.

Paul and Michelle Simmons saw the AP photograph in USA Today Sunday morning after it was brought to their attention through a Facebook page set up to help find their 20-year-old son, according to police and family friends.

While questions remain unanswered about why the young man left and how he ended up in Washington, his mother expressed her relief on Facebook that her son had been located.

“It could have been months before we had a lead on his whereabouts. My baby looks so lost and I will be spending the rest of my life making him well,” she wrote.

The photo, taken Saturday by AP photographer Jacquelyn Martin, showed Simmons with his unshaven face pressed against a grate outside the Federal Trade Commission. He wore a ski jacket and a hood over his head. A thick gray blanket covered his lower body.

Martin was assigned to the White House that weekend, but with President Barack Obama still on vacation in Hawaii, she spent the day looking for shots that would illustrate the cold weather. That is how she found Nick Simmons, in an area where homeless people often gather when it is frigid outside. She found a cluster of men huddled around the grate, introduced herself and started taking pictures.

Then she noticed one person in particular, huddled under a blanket.

“It struck me how young he was,” Martin said. “I again introduced myself and shook his hand. He said his name was Nick.”

Martin finished shooting, sent the pictures to the wire and called it a day. The next day, she received a message via Twitter from USA Today.

The newspaper had run the photo of Nick and was contacting Martin to tell her that Nick’s family had recognized him and was trying to locate him. Michelle Simmons was certain that the young man in the photograph was her son, missing for four days.

Police picked Simmons up Sunday afternoon and took him to a hospital, said police Capt. Patrick Phelan. Simmons’ father, Paul, and older brother Paul Jr. arrived in Washington Sunday night and were reunited with Simmons at the hospital, said longtime family friends Peter and Cindy Gugino.

Martin, the AP photographer, said the episode serves as a reminder to journalists that every person they encounter has a story to tell.

“It’s really gratifying to see that a photograph can make a tangible difference in someone’s life. That’s a really amazing thing to have happened,” she said. “I’m happy and touched that the photograph could help reunite this family.”

Police said authorities notified local media and tried to investigate the case, but there were no leads until the publication of the photo.

“It was pure dumb luck how all this happened,” said Sgt. David Mancuso, the lead investigator. “It’s truly a miracle.”

Violence against women is very real in various parts of the world, and it isn’t always perpetrated by men.  Few people know this better than Naomi Oni, a beautiful young woman who was the victim of an acid attack by another woman.

Mary Konye, a 21-year old, disguised herself as a Muslim, wearing a veil and following Oni for the attack. According to police, the Victoria’s Secret lingerie assistant had once called the woman ugly and she was looking for revenge.

When she least expected it, Konye threw sulfuric acid into the woman’s face and in her hair.  She could smell and feel her skin and hair burning, according to what she told the jury. She ran home and that’s where her family washed the acid off the woman’s face.

The attack was allegedly inspired by a similar strike on a woman by the name of Katie Piper. Oni lost skin on her face and her clothes tested positive for sulfuric acid, according to the UK Daily Mail. Konye says she didn’t do it and that she wasn’t jealous of the victim, but she allegedly told a friend that she wanted to throw acid onto Oni’s face.

Konye attended the Hertfordshire University business and finance in England. Her alleged copycat attack left the former model blind in one eye and badly scarred after the incident.

The prosecutor, Gareth Patterson, told the jury: “Naomi will tell you about her friendship with the defendant. She will tell you how in the past they had an up and down relationship and how the defendant had admitted to her that on one occasion in anger she threatened to throw acid at Naomi.

There was a reason why the defendant would have chosen to make such an unusual sort of threat. In the past the two of them had discussed a young woman called Katie Piper. Naomi and the defendant had talked about this and it appears that the defendant knew that Naomi had been particularly moved by Katie Piper’s ordeal.”

The prosecutors claimed that after one fight, Mary told a friend that she was so angry at her that she wanted to throw acid on Naomi. After the woman left work at the Westfield shopping center in Stratford, East London, at 11:30 pm, that’s when prosecutors say that the Mary waited to find Naomi and threw the acid in her face. She walked just a few steps behind her before the attack.

“All of a sudden Naomi felt a liquid being thrown into her face. She screamed and felt her face burning. She could smell her skin and hair burning,” the prosecutor said.

Since the attack, Naomi has gotten a skin graft to her face and is nearly blind. She also has significant scarring. Konye was arrested a few weeks later. The case continues in London.
