Charles Jenkins is the well known pastor of the historic Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. He became nationally known for penning the popular Grammy Award winning worship song, “Awesome.” He has pastored Fellowship Missionary for 13 years and also serves as the founding president of Fellowship Educational and Economic Development Corporation, which is a nonprofit currently leading The Legacy Project, which is expected to bring 400 new jobs to Chicago’s Southside.
Jenkins, however, is not making news for his successes in preaching or songwriting. He is currently embroiled in a scandal stemming from an eight-year affair he had with Mrs. Mundi Griffin.
Jenkins confessed the affair to his congregation along with his wife, Tara Jenkins, on Easter sunday of 2014. The most recent development in the scandal involves the posting of a nude photo of Jenkins online. The photo appeared on the Obnoxious Blog, and Jenkins believes that Griffin released the photo in an attempt to extort money from him. The information was revealed by former church member Rae Lewis-Thorton.
Griffin is denying the accusations of extortion, stating in a text message that she sent to Jenkins that he fabricated a story to try to salvage his reputation by making her look irresponsible. Griffin also called Jenkins to task for defaming her from the pulpit. It appears as though Griffin was given a job at the church along with a six figure salary during her affair with the pastor.
The identity of the person who posted the nude photo of Jenkins has still not been determined, but EEW Magazine News is reporting that it is a woman who is a disgruntled former employee. The woman is allegedly demanding the remaining half of a $20,000 payment she was promised to keep quiet about Jenkin’s affair.
