Must read

The Federal government has reconnected Borno state to the national electricity system after several attacks by Boko Haram insurgents in the state which led to the destruction of  power lines supplying electricity to its capital.

A statement from the federal Ministry of power, Mr. Mohammed Wakil, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 confirmed that Maiduguri was reconnected on Monday, January 19, 2015 after he issued a 48-hour ultmatum to officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

Wakil also announced on Thursday, January 22, 2015, after a meeting with youths and women groups in Borno that President Jonathan had ordered for the opening of two new sources of power supply to the area.

He said, “I want to inform our people that President Jonathan has ordered the opening of two other new sources of power supply to Borno State. We have complied with this presidential directive and in due course, Borno will have three sources of power supply,”

“Borno State will get three sources of power namely the 132 KVA Gombe – Biu – Damboa – Maiduguri line; the 330 KVA new sub station on Damboa road in Maiduguri and the Damaturu 330/132/33 KVA which should be completed as quickly as possible.

“The era of only one line connecting the state to national grid is over. We must ensure at least three lines of connection to prevent future sabotage and vandalism,” the minister added.
