Ahmed Makarfi, the national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the former chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff are in a closed-door reconciliatory meeting in Abuja.

According to an inside source, the high-powered meeting is attending by PDP governors led by Governor Segun Mimiko, deputy senate president, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu and other party leaders.

The meeting began in afternoon of Thursday, July 14, 2016 and is still holding at the Taraba State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, as at the time of filing this report.

Sources who spoke with The Trent on condition of anonymity, say the meeting was arranged in order “to settle” the leadership tussle in the party.

Senator Modu Sheriff was sacked as the national chairman at the PDP national convention on May 21, 2016 and Senator Makarfi was appointed as the caretaker national chairman with a mandate to conduct new elections within 90 days.

A federal high court has granted judgement recognising the appointment of Makarfi and the ouster of Sheriff. By the judgement, which has not been appealed, Makarfi is the legally recognised leader of the main opposition party in Nigeria.

The national secretariat of the PDP has been sealed off by the Nigeria Police Force for almost two month due to the leadership tussle in the party.
