#SoundOff: Forgive Me, Dear Goodluck Jonathan

Must read

by Laura Pius

Before the general elections, I secretly thought you were indeed “weak” as charged. And when you eventually threw the POWERS vested in you to overturn the electoral process and retain your seat in the presidency, like a pearl before a swine, I concluded inside me that maybe you were truly “incompetent” to lead a country like OURS.

I was wrong.

You are stronger than we all gave you credit for.

When you concentrated 70% of your first tenure in #transforming Northern Nigeria, some of us felt you were #afraid of those northern cabals, hence wanted to please them ahead of your second-term ambition…

But we now know better.

Dear GEJ, when you kept silent over the accusations and counter accusations levelled against you and your office, some interpreted your silence as “cluelessness”.

Again, that was a misconception. An error in judgement of your person.

Indeed, YOU REMAIN AN EXEMPLARY LEADER!

It takes courage to turn the other cheek when slapped.

My superhero, barely five months since you left, things have fallen apart and we are no longer at ease.

There’s disunity amongst us. Especially “we” the Southerners. Suddenly Igbos are against non-Igbos and vice-versa. Niger Deltans are denying Biafrans and vice-versa. Friends from each side of the divide have become avowed enemies. People that were once united in GROUPS for a just cause are leaving the group while some are leaving with the group alongside. Hmm. Some are so bitter that they wash their dirty linen in public while others have threatened to expose one another’s secrets…

Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, did you leave office with (your) goodluck while badluck looms the nation unchecked?

I’m pondering on how things got this ugly.

*Sobbing*
