#SoundOff: On Buhari’s Many Foreign Trips And What Nigerians Expect

Must read

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]resident Muhammadu Buhari’s frequent trips abroad have continued to be a source of concern to many. Yes, some supporters have argued the trips are part of PR efforts on Nigeria’s behalf. But PR from which countries? Western countries or China/Russia?

If it is the West, nothing from there thus far. Nigeria has been receiving knocks from major Western institutions for its perceived poor economic policies for at least two months running now. Support to contain Boko Haram from the West has largely been rhetorical instead of serious assistance.

That of Boko Haram is simply a shame given the facts in Western media that the godless group has killed more people than ISIS since its Middle Eastern cousin began operations. Yet, both the East and West are pouring resources into fighting ISIS leaving Nigeria and its poor neighbours alone to contend with Boko Haram.

One then begins to wonder what Buhari is junketing around for?Fuel scarcity has persisted. Kidnappings continue. The roads remain bad. Everybody is complaining about cash crunch. A serious president should be at his table from 8am till 4am the next day to find solutions to these endless problems.

It is my sincere submission that Buhari has no business travelling abroad in the next one year. Mr. President, please get back to work. The assignment is in Nigeria, not outside the country.
