#SoundOff: The Ugliness Of Aisha Buhari’s Beauty Book

Must read

by Nnamdi Abana

Aisha Buhari’s launch of her beauty book on a day coinciding with their Chibok girls kidnapping anniversary is the greatest political blunder ever committed by a first lady.

Her book launch is a demonstration of insensitivity and gross heartlessness. Why in the world should a first lady be launching a book about “pancake” and “eyeshadow” when women like her are weeping and gnashing their teeth over the kidnap of their daughters in Nigeria.

At times I wonder why we are beginning to have strange specie of first ladies.

I expected Aisha Buhari to champion the course of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign. If she adopted that as her project as a first lady at least she will be remembered for her efforts in #BringingBackOurGirls.

If she had received Oby Ezekwesili into Aso Rock assuring them of her willingness to collaborate with the group in ensuring that the heartbroken mothers are pacified and assuring them of her unflinching commitment towards the rescue of those missing girls she will be hailed by all Nigerians irrespective of their political leaning.

Sadly, she was preoccupied by launching a book on beauty. Who cares about her beauty books when over 200 Chibok girls are missing.

Mrs. Buhari should appear on national TV on bended knees apologising to the nation for her lack of wisdom and discretion.
