Students Cause Mayhem Over Governor Okorocha’s Failed N4 Million Promise

Must read

Students from various tertiary institutions in Imo State on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 caused a stir in the state after Governor Rochas Okorocha failed to live up to his promise of doling out N4 million to the students to endorse him as their preferred governorship candidate ahead of the Saturday, February 28, 2015 polls.

The students were ferried by hired buses and government vehicles to the Imo International Conference Centre (IICC), venue for the event from as early as 6 am and were at the IICC until about 6 pm without any refreshment of any sort.

Their fury was further ignited after the promised sum was not forthcoming, with no government official addressing them. The students were said to have gone berserk, destroying the governor’s campaign posters and billboard at the Government House roundabout.

The students numbering in the thousands blocked major roads like Wetheral/Okigwe/Bank roundabout, destroying street lights while chanting anti-Okorocha songs.

It took the effort of police to finally restore normalcy.
