A suspected homosexual rapist, identified only as Alhaji Tunji, as well as one other, Ganiyu Adebayo, were gunned down on Monday, July 21, 2015 during a riot in the Temidire, Alagbado area of Lagos State.

The riot was said to have started around 11am according to Punch, after the landlords had ended a community meeting, which resulted in sporadic shootings and fighting allegedly between Tunji’s thugs and youths in the area.

About 25 landlords led by the Baale, Alhaji Najimu Abioye, had on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 invaded the Lagos State Police Command with a petition against the deceased Tunji who was accused of being a land grabber and a homosexual rapist.

It was gathered that the landlords explained to the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, in the petition that the lives of the entire community was endangered.

But the deceased had repelled the claims by the complainants and allegedly stormed the area with his thugs shortly after the landlords ended a meeting and shot sporadically which inflicted varying degrees of injuries on two persons.

A source amongst the landlords who spoke anonymously said, “We had barely ended the meeting, when these hoodlums arrived and shot at the people. The other man was hit in the arm, but Adebayo was hit in a critical area. He was bleeding profusely. He died while we were rushing him to a hospital. We have a police report from Alagbado.”

It was during a protest of Adebayo’s death by some angry youths that Alhaji Tunji was shot dead.

The source continued, “He is dead. He was shot dead during the crisis. It is unfortunate. We do not know who was responsible for it. He will be buried tomorrow at his residence on AIT Road. His thugs had taken over the road in anger at the moment.”

The crisis reportedly escalated as efforts by the police to calm the situation proved abortive with a rather increment in  the number of protesting hoodlums who threatened to avenge the death of Alhaji Tunji.

Confirming the death of the suspected homosexual rapist, the state police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said, “Residents of the area were protesting against the activities of land grabbers during which Tunji was attacked and injured. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

“One other person was injured in the riot. Investigations are ongoing on the matter.”
