A newborn baby girl of just two hours old who was allegedly dumped naked by her mum in a trash can was discovered eaten alive by ants near a school in Bhopal in India.
A Mirror UK report on Thursday, December 18, 2014 said that the baby was discovered by a 32-year-old school security guard, Ahmed Kahn after he heard her cry repeatedly.
He said, “I heard the sound of a baby crying but at first thought it was some kids messing around.
“But as it continued I realised it was coming from a bin across the road and when I went over I saw this blood red body of a baby covered in ants.
“It was truly horrifying.
“The baby was waving its arms and legs around to get away from the pain from the bites because it was covered in ants.
“They were crawling all over her and eating her alive.
“I immediately pulled her out, beat off the ants and called an ambulance.”
After the discovery, the baby was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance where she is now lying in a critical condition.
With the help of a CCTV footage, police officials were able to spot the baby’s mother in a hood dumping the naked child in the bin. She claimed that the baby’s father promised to marry her but disappeared after he got her pregnant.
She disclosed that she dumped the baby in order to avoid stigmatization of having a baby outside marriage.
A police spokesman said, “The woman is from the city of Chindwada but moved here last year and was living with her sister.
“She became pregnant with a man who slept with her on the pretext of getting married, but then disappeared.
“Overcome with guilt and shame she disposed of the newborn baby to avoid humiliation and social stigma.
“She was arrested and could be charged with endangering the life of a child.”
One of the officials from the hospital where the baby is currently receiving care said, “She was about two-hours-old and was in a very bad way.
“We are keeping her under constant observation.”
