A 22-year-old student has taken the most bizarre approach to prove that her body is something powerful, rather than just a sexual object after she posed apparently nude with blindfolds and earphones at the stair case of her school.

Monika Rotsvold sat in her lewd state for about 45 minutes sometime within the week in her bid to initiate a conversation about the sexualisation of women’s bodies.

The degree student of Fine Arts in Texas University, San Marcos, made the disturbing display on the campus steps outside the school.

According to KTSW, Rotsvold revealed how the piece of performance art has earned her the name, ‘the naked chick’ on social media.

She said, “My body is beautiful, natural, this is what it’s supposed to be. I’m trying to take away it being a sex object.”

It was fun time for other students who flocked around her during the nude protest, and made good use of their devices to grab some shots of their colleague which they subsequently dispersed through various social media.

The comments came in just as expected, mostly from male social media users who relished the shots.

Rotsvold further told how she had researched nudity laws on campus before planning her performance, adding that a few people were so offended, they actually removed her headphones to give their opinion, telling her she was degrading herself.

She said, “The message I was trying to get across was that we shouldn’t be seen as sexual objects,’ she told Cosmopolitan. ‘We’re beautiful and we’re powerful, and people should just respect our bodies in that way.”

According to Rotsvold, the performance was also inspired by the ‘Never Asking For It’ movement which holds that women are never asking to be raped despite the way tey dressed and behaved.

The following day, Monika posted a message on Instagram thanking her supporters. She wrote: ‘I just want to say thank you to all the kind people out there for letting me spread the word through art.’

She also claimed that her performance has received a lot of positive feedback.

She said, “People have come to me on Facebook and written me messages thanking me for making them aware that we’re not alone in this.”
