The operations manager of a new generation bank (name withheld), Umar Alkali has testified that the Yobe State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Abu Zarma, presenting evidence that the latter received deposits of N15 million were made to his account three days before the Saturday, April 14, 2015 governorship elections in the state.
This was made known during the Yobe State elections tribunal sitting in Abuja on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the election, Adamu Waziri is contesting the election of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the grounds of corruption and irregularities.According to Alkali, Zarma had N23,000 in his account before Wednesday, April 8, 2015, but received two lodgements – N8 million and N7 million before the election date.
He availed thus: “The account was not opened in my branch, so we had to ask for the scanned copy of the statement of account from the branch where it was opened in order to produce it in court. N8million was deposited into the account on April 8, 2015, and was withdrawn after it was paid into the account.
“The statement of account showed evidence of lodgement into the account. He initially had N23,000 in his account and all of a sudden, he withdrew N600,000 and transferred about N7million.”
