Star Wars Actor, Kenny Baker Dies At 81

Kenny Bakers, who was famous for his role in Star Wars as R2-D2 has died after a long illness in his home in Preston, England.

According to The Guardian, his niece, Abigail Shield said he had suffered lung issues and was confined to a wheel chair. She added that he had been found dead on Saturday morning by his nephew.

Kenny Bakers who is 3ft and 8 inches tall has featured in Five Star Wars films since 1977. He has also featured in other movies including Elephant Man and Flash Gordon.

“It was expected, but it’s sad nonetheless. He had a very long and fulfilled life. He brought lots of happiness to people and we’ll be celebrating the fact that he was well loved throughout the world. We’re all very proud of what he achieved in his lifetime.” Shield also added.

People around the world have paid him tribute including the Star Wars creator, George Lucas who said he is a “real gentleman” he “worked hard under difficult circumstance”.
