#WorldCup: Injury Scare For Super Eagle Oboabona

By Goal on June 18, 2014

Nigeria await scan results to determine if defender Godfrey Oboabona will still play in the World Cup.

The 23-year-old has an injury on his foot as a result of being stamped on by an opponent’s studs, during Monday’s goalless draw with Iran in Curitiba. He was replaced in the 29th minute by captain Joseph Yobo.

The Caykur Rizespor player failed to train with the team on Tuesday night in Campinas where they are based. There is word that he could miss the rest of the tournament.

“We are waiting for scan results on Wednesday to determine the state of the injury,” team media officer Ben Alaiya told Goal.

Regarded as the backbone of the Super Eagles backline, Oboabona’s loss would be a great blow to their World Cup campaign.

Nigeria will play Bosnia-Herzegovina in their second match in Cuiaba on Friday. It is a game both sides need to win in order to stand a chance of reaching the second round. hi-res-ffea88535e90691cbfcf0464c24dde3c_crop_north
