2015: Tafawa Balewa’s Son Declares For Presidency

Son of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Abdul Jelil Tafawa Balewa has stated his intentions to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2015.

Balewa, who is a medical doctor by profession, told newsmen that he has been making wide consultations prior to his declaration and feels that Nigerians wanted a new leadership capable of fulfilling the desires of the greater majority in the country.

When asked which political party on whose platform he would run, he stated that he doesn’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet, adding that he has been approached by a number of political parties and it wouldn’t be right if he starts talking when discussions are still ongoing.

The Scoop reports:

The son of Nigeria’s First Republic Prime Minister, Dr. Abdul Jelil Tafawa Balewa, has declared his intention to contest the 2015 presidential election.

Balewa said that he has consulted widely and believed that Nigerians wanted a new leadership capable of fulfilling the high expectations and aspirations of the greater majority in the country.

Balewa, who is a medical doctor, said on Sunday that with the right political party, he was fully prepared.

He said he was being prodded to join the race by “well-meaning elder statesmen from across the geo-political zones of Nigeria.:

He said, “My entry into politics would add some values to the Nigerian democracy given the finesse, candour and pragmatism, which I will be infusing into the system based on experiences.

“My closeness with President Goodluck Jonathan has made my attempt to lead Nigeria more interesting. However, my ambition is not a do or die affair. Jonathan is a pragmatic politician who has always welcomed free and fair contest.”

Balewa has however decided to in the meantime, keep silent on the political party “for strategic reasons”

He said, “Some political parties have been talking to me. I have more than two of the parties including the major ones showing interest. It would be unfair for me to start dropping names, more so when consultations were still ongoing on the next line of action.”

Balewa’s son said although he had spent a long period of time in the US and Britain in quest for knowledge, nonetheless, he had been paying his dues in the local politics of Nigeria.

He said with his wealth of experience in politics he had in the past contributed to successes of some public office holders both at the state and federal levels.

When asked whether he had the financial muscle to contest the presidential election, Balewa who said he had “never been a pauper” insisted that good Nigerians would support him.

He said, “We place too much emphasis on money in this country and that is why our politics appears repressed and clumsy.

“I have never been a pauper; all the same, we have people who are deeply committed to my cause and ready to see me through.

“I am not going to let the cat out of the bag yet. I have my game plans to beat this emphasis on huge money to buy votes. I am going to do things differently and God will help me.”

  1. He should go and sit his ass down somewhere, no one wants him as the president of Nigeria. I just can’t with these northerners and their “born to rule” mindset. Born to rule who? On one hand they support Boko Haram because they want Nigeria to be made an Islam nation and only northern muslims should hold the highest office, then on the other hand they want to control petroleum resources coming from the south where you have predominantly Christians.

I repeat, Dr. Abdul Jelil Tafawa Balewa should have several seats cos he is a loser already
