ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has issued a public apology to his fans, family, and the broader public following a wave of criticism over a controversial statement he made about male monogamy.
In a podcast appearance earlier this week, the African Queen singer sparked widespread backlash when he declared that men are not “naturally wired” to be monogamous, suggesting that a man could love one woman while being sexually involved with others.
“A man is not built sexually to be with one woman,” 2Baba said during the podcast.
“A man can love one woman, give her his heart but it’s impossible for a man to sexually be with one woman only. It’s the nature of a man.”
The remark quickly ignited intense debate on social media platforms, with some defending the singer’s honesty, while others labelled the comment as a harmful generalisation and a disservice to the ongoing discourse on fidelity, respect, and gender dynamics.
Faced with mounting criticism, the singer took to Instagram on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, to issue a video apology from Abuja, in which he acknowledged the pain caused by his remarks.
“Yo man, I know I fked up with what I said. I really, really fked up more than I said,” 2Baba said in the video.
“I know I’m going to get cancelled for this. I know I’m going to pay the price, a heavy price. I’m going to face the consequences.”
He went on to take full responsibility for the statement and its impact.
“There’s no excuse for that, you know. I own up to that. I own up to the fact that I f**ked up, what I said hurt so many people; my fans, parents, and millions of people that look up to me.”
The apology was especially directed towards his immediate family, whom he described as innocent victims of his public blunder.
“I’m sorry to my wife, the love of my life, Natasha; you know, she’s amazing; she’s amazing, she’s wonderful. She’s smart,” he said.
“I’m so sorry, also to my kids, man; you know the young people, they don’t deserve this kind of thing that I put them into.”

The Trent confirms that the apology video began circulating shortly after the controversy gained traction online, with fans expressing mixed reactions—some accepting the remorseful gesture, others questioning the depth of his contrition.
2Baba, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated musicians with a career spanning over two decades, is no stranger to public scrutiny.
However, this latest incident has tested his reputation as a role model and voice of a generation.
