Five Nigerian students of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of 19-year-old Godwin Ayogu, who was also a student of the school.

All five arrested boys were friends of the deceased, with one being his room mate.

Ogunsanyo Abayomi (the roommate), Obi Mnaetochi Brendan Ilozumba, Oti Uchechukwu Chijooke, Jimoh Oluwatobiloba Timileyin and Isaac Ifidon allegedly killed Ayogu over money.

The deceased was gruesomely murdered with his legs and hands tied. His murderers dumped him in front of his hostel after carrying out the wicked act with multiple stab wounds and his intestines gushing out of his body(pictured below right).

Post-mortem reveals he suffered stab wounds to his heart.

After investigations by the Homicide Unit of the Police Criminal Investigations Department, Headquarters, Accra, it was revealed that Ayogu’s roommate, Ogunsanyo borrowed money from him to pay his school fees. But didn’t pay back when he promised, instead he traveled to the UK promising to pay back when he returned.

On his return, Ogunsanyp still refused to pay back the money he owed Ayogu. He moved out of the hostel room they both shared and rented a two-bedroom apartment off campus.

Ayogu reported the case to other  Nigerian students, asking them to speak with Ogunsanyo to pay back the money.

The deceased was last seen alive on February 18, 2014 in the company of his named Oluwatobiloba.

According to reports, the two had gone to Ogunsanyo’s apartment to demand Ayogu’s money, in the course of which a scuffle ensued between Ayogu and Ogunsanyo. The next morning Ayogu’s body was discovered.

As soon as his body was discovered, all five students disappeared from campus. Through thorough investigations, police were able to trace their involvement in the case

The five boys were arrested as soon as they resurfaced on campus. The Ghanaian police say the suspects are coorperating and are assisting with the investigation.
