A local passenger boat with 10 persons on board, going from Coconut jetty in Apapa to Ojo town capsized behind Navy Town, Apapa on Friday January 24th 2014, according to a statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.
Seven of the ten persons on the boat were rescued, while three are still missing.
The agency’s General Manager, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, reportedly said that a search and rescue mission has been launched to find the missing persons.
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed to reporters that the seven passengers rescued were attended to by the state ambulance service and were all in stable condition. He also noted that none of them had worn life jackets.
“We are still searching for the missing persons and I believe they still have a chance of survival,”
The incident reportedly occurred around 12am but the missing persons have not been identified.
