As Adamawa State electorate awaits the yet-to-be announced date of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a group, Democratic Young Patriots (DYP), is rooting for the former military administrator of Lagos State Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, to succeed the impeached governor, Murtala Nyako as the governor of the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the acting National Coordinator of DYP, Ariyo-Dare Atoye and made available to THISDAY in Abujaon Sunday, July 27, 2014.
According to the statement, Marwa has what it takes to rebuild Adamawa State, as well as restoring peace in the North-east.
“As young nationalists and sincere patriots committed to the stability and prosperity of Nigeria, we are canvassing for the emergence of Marwa as the new governor of Adamawa State to rebuild the state from years of ruins, redeem it from bankruptcy and strategically support President Goodluck Jonathan to restore peace in the North-east. In our humble estimation, Marwa is unarguably the man better placed to give Adamawa State a sound direction.
“As insurgency in the North-east is a national concern, so also the peace and stability of Adamawa State is the priority of every well-meaning Nigerian. It is now our collective responsibility as a people to ensure that we get the right man for the Adamawa job to avoid repeating the ills of the past and greatly reduce the burden of insecurity. Buba Marwa as a former governor of old Borno State (currently Borno and Yobe States) is a national asset to restore peace and order in that region.”
The statement added that Adamawa had been denied good governance for several years, and is currently groaning under heavy financial burden inflicted on it by the immediate past administration of Nyako.
It said the state had been in the news for the wrong reasons under Nyako and there was an urgent need to redeem it.
The statement noted that with Marwa, comes an astute administrative skill, polished experienced, national and international connection required to turn around the fortune of the state.
“The records and achievements of Marwa in Lagos State as a former military administrator speak volumes of his capacity and purpose to bring good governance to the masses and good people of Adamawa State.
“We are therefore appealing to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates in Adamawa, the state party executives and the national leadership of the party to support Mohammed Buba Marwa in the primary election to fly the flag of the party.
“We firmly believe that he will turn around the fortunes of the party and win the governorship election with an overwhelming majority. Marwa connects very well with the youths and ordinary people as a humble and humane leader. This, he demonstrated as the governors of old Borno State and Lagos State.
“The youths of Nigeria are saying in Marwa we trust to liberate the people of Adamawa State and give the peace process in North-east a sincere commitment. Marwa is a great leader we can trust to deliver.
“We are young nationalists, formerly members of the League of Patriotic and Progressive Youths (Young Patriots), a group of young professionals who participated actively in the merger process of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a vibrant youth representation, while hundreds of our members joined the APC during membership registration. We recently joined the PDP to strengthen its youth wing and to consolidate Nigerian youths support for Buba Marwa,” the statement concluded.
