BERGAMO, Italy — Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has formally submitted a transfer request to Atalanta BC, accusing the Serie A club of “blocking the opportunity” for him to leave, despite what he describes as a mutual agreement to part ways.
In a strongly-worded social media post on Sunday, August 3, 2025, the 27-year-old expressed frustration over what he characterised as “broken promises” and poor treatment from the club’s hierarchy.
“Enough is enough,” Lookman declared, stating that he had been led to believe that the club would sanction his departure if a suitable offer arrived.
“We were clear that if a fair offer came in, they would allow me to move. An offer did come in, aligned with what had been discussed — but they refused to honour their word,” he wrote.

Lookman’s post follows reports that Atalanta rejected a €42 million bid plus €3 million in add-ons from Inter Milan, who are understood to have agreed personal terms with the Nigerian international.
Atalanta are said to be holding out for €60 million, a figure Inter are reluctant to meet.
In recent days, Lookman intensified speculation over his future by deleting all Atalanta-related content from his Instagram page, including photos of himself in the club’s jersey and unfollowing the club’s account.
His bio no longer references Atalanta, further signalling his desire to sever ties.
Despite the rising tension, Lookman insisted he had done everything to remain professional: “Even through the difficult moments, many of which remained private, I always put the club, the fans and the team first,” he wrote.
“But now I feel I have no choice.”
He stopped short of naming specific incidents but said the decision to go public came after months of unresolved issues behind the scenes.
Atalanta have not issued an official response to Lookman’s allegations or his transfer request as of press time.
Lookman joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 and has since become a key figure in Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, notably scoring a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this year — a performance that cemented his reputation as one of Europe’s most in-form wide forwards.
