UYO, Nigeria — Comrade Ini Ememobong, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, has resigned from his position following Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Friday, June 6, 2025, Ememobong confirmed his resignation, citing irreconcilable political differences with the Governor’s new affiliation.

He declared his intention not to follow Governor Eno to the APC, aligning instead with what he described as a politics “with principles.”

“Today, I have tendered my resignation to the Governor in compliance with his directive that his appointees who are unwilling to join him on the political journey to the APC should resign,” Ememobong stated.

“While I cannot question or fault the Governor’s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn.”

Ememobong, who previously served as Commissioner for Information under the same administration before being redeployed, is regarded as a loyalist of former Governor Udom Emmanuel.

His exit adds to speculation about growing internal resistance among PDP-aligned officials in the wake of Governor Eno’s high-profile party switch.

“This decision does not affect my personal relationship with the Governor, who calls me his brother and reposed great confidence in me,” Ememobong noted.

“I have and will continue to have tremendous respect for HE Governor Umo Eno, even out of EXCO.”

He expressed satisfaction with his public service record, adding, “About my history in political and public service, I look back with great satisfaction at the work I have done and leave the ultimate judgement to history and posterity. Given another opportunity, I will do more.”
