UYO, Nigeria — The Akwa Ibom State Government has revoked all land allocations made since Governor Umo Eno assumed office in May 2023, including those involving government-acquired lands.
In a notice issued on Monday, August 25, 2025, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN, said the decision was taken to allow for the revalidation of allocations and to facilitate the migration of records to the state’s new digital land management system, Akwa-GIS.
“Notice is hereby given of the revocation of all land allocations in Akwa Ibom State made from the 29th day of May, 2023, till date, inclusive of all government-acquired land, for the purpose of revalidating allocations and interests and for migrating to the digital Akwa-GIS platform,” Udom stated.
Suspension of Land Transactions
The Attorney-General further explained that all fresh land allocations and transactions would be suspended for one month during the transition period.
The Directorate of Lands will also be temporarily shut during this time.
“Over this period of transition, all fresh allocations of government land and transactions on government land stand suspended for a period of one month, during which period the Directorate of Lands shall be shut,” he said.
Revalidation Process
According to Udom, the revalidation exercise will last for two months and will be conducted by the GIS office within the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning.
“Any land allocation, instrument, or interest not revalidated within this period shall be deemed invalid,” he added.
The move represents a significant shift toward digitisation of land administration in Akwa Ibom, aimed at improving transparency, reducing disputes, and streamlining land ownership processes across the state.
