UMUAHIA, Nigeria — Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has firmly dismissed speculations linking him to the newly-formed opposition coalition that adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 general elections, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party (LP).
Otti made the remarks on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, during an interactive session with members of the Abia State Global Economic Council in Umuahia.
Addressing rumours about his political alignment, the governor said he remains focused on delivering his electoral mandate and has no intention of decamping.
“You have a right to dream. I also have the right to state that I’m still a member of the Labour Party and I’m not looking for where to decamp to,” he said.
His response follows mounting speculation that he might join the opposition ADC coalition, which formally unveiled its structure on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Abuja, naming former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman, and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim national secretary.
Bolaji Abdullahi, a former sports minister, was appointed spokesperson.
Governor Otti, however, categorically denied any involvement.
“A lot of people have been asking: ‘Are you a member of the coalition?’ And my response is, ‘Have you seen my name? Have you seen me attending any coalition meeting?’”
The governor stressed that his administration remains fully engaged in implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of the people of Abia State.
“We are busy doing the work that Abia people have given us. We are not attending any coalition meeting. I have not attended one. Nobody has invited me,” he added.
While acknowledging that the Labour Party has faced internal tensions, Otti expressed confidence that lingering disputes would be resolved soon, especially in the light of a recent Supreme Court ruling.
“Yes, we had issues. A lot of people believe that a few issues that remain would be solved very soon because the Supreme Court judgment was very clear,” he said.
