AWKA, Nigeria — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has suspended its governorship candidate in last Saturday, November 8, 2025’s election, Jude Ezenwafor, over alleged acts of sabotage and misconduct during the electioneering period.
The decision was reached at the end of a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the party’s secretariat in Awka, with the suspension taking immediate effect.
Announcing the resolution, Chidi Chidebe, Chairman of the PDP in Anambra, said Ezenwafor’s suspension would last for one month, pending further investigation by the State Party Disciplinary Committee.
“After due deliberation, the SEC resolved that Jude Ezenwafor is hereby suspended from the PDP for a period of one month with immediate effect,” Chidebe said.
“He is to be referred to the State Party Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and appropriate recommendations.”
Chidebe accused Ezenwafor of gross indiscipline, alleging that the candidate “exhibited attitudes that were not only uncooperative but outrightly destructive to the collective interest of the party.”
“He failed to campaign in any ward, local government, or across the state throughout the entire electioneering period,” Chidebe said.
“He connived with candidates of other political parties to deliberately sabotage the chances of the PDP in the election.”
The PDP chairman further alleged that Ezenwafor fabricated an “unconvincing story” of an assassination attempt and extortion, and was involved in creating a “parallel gang of impostors, mostly non-members of the PDP, to unlawfully perform party functions.”
Commenting on the November 8 election, the party described the poll as “flawed” but said it would not contest the results in court or elsewhere.
“We have decided not to challenge the outcome of the election. Instead, we will focus on rebuilding the party and restoring internal discipline,” Chidebe said.
According to official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP finished sixth among the 16 political parties that participated in the election, securing 1,401 votes.
The party revealed that its candidate won only one vote in his own ward — Nnobi Ward 3, Idemili South Local Government Area — describing it as “the worst result for PDP in any ward across the state.”
“This abysmal performance clearly exposes his lack of character, credibility, and commitment to both the party and the election,” the statement added.
The Anambra PDP said it remained steadfast in upholding party unity and discipline under the leadership of Ambassador Umar Damagum, the Acting National Chairman.
“We are determined to rebuild and reposition the PDP on the principles of internal democracy, loyalty, and transparency,” Chidebe affirmed.
