ABUJA, Nigeria — The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), comprising governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was announced during the APC summit held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Abuja.
Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State and chairman of the PGF, made the declaration on behalf of the forum.
Addressing the gathering, Uzodimma said the decision was a unanimous one, driven by the belief that Tinubu remains best positioned to continue steering the country towards prosperity.
“For Nigeria to get to her destination faster in prosperity, the president should be used and adopted as our flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election, for a second term in office,” Uzodimma stated.
He went on to charge APC governors with the responsibility of actively promoting federal government policies and securing electoral victories across their states in the next general election.
“The governors produced by our All Progressives Congress are hereby charged to take responsibility to market our federal government policies, occupy the political space in their domains, and take responsibility for winning all elections in their states come 2027,” he said.
Uzodimma then moved a formal motion for Tinubu’s adoption as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 polls.
Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna State, promptly seconded the motion.
“I rise to second the motion as ably moved by the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, the governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Hope Uzodimma, that this August gathering pass a vote of confidence on our able and amiable president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a sole candidate of APC come 2027 general election,” he declared.
This endorsement comes just a day after APC governors from the north-central geopolitical zone passed a separate vote of confidence in Tinubu’s administration, reinforcing the party’s internal momentum in support of the president’s re-election bid.
