ABUJA, Nigeria — Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday, September 25, 2025 joined a high-profile gathering of African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition leaders in Abuja, underscoring the opposition’s efforts to consolidate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Also present at the closed-door meeting were Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State; Isa Pantami, former minister of digital economy; David Mark, chairman of the ADC; and Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State.
In a post on X shortly before the session, Atiku said the coalition’s agenda was to stand against “oligarchs who promote poverty and insecurity in the land.”
The meeting follows a July declaration by opposition politicians and ADC leaders adopting the party as the umbrella platform for the 2027 polls.
The coalition brings together several prominent figures from across Nigeria’s political spectrum.
They include Uche Secondus, former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023; Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation; and Odigie Oyegun, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
