ALERT! Bird Flu Hits 5 States In Nigeria

The Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture has revealed that Avian Influenza or Bird Flu has been detected five states of the country namely: Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta and Kano.

Minister of Agiculture, Akinwunmi Adesina made the announcement in Abuja on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 while addressing newsmen stating that 15 commercial farms and 9 live bird markets have been affected in recent weeks.

Adesina also revealed that so far, about 139,505 birds have been exposed to the disease, with 22, 173 (15%) confirmed dead, adding that Kano was the worst hit state, with 103,445 exposed to the infection.

The minister enjoined Nigerians to take necessary precautions in order to ensure the safety across the country, as health officials have begun taking comprehensive steps to curb the spread.
