Floyd Mayweather could earn up to $70 million dollars for a fιght that lasted only 36 minutes and he couldn’t be happier.
Mayweather was paid $32 million for his decision defeat over Marcos Maidana on Saturday night. That could still only amount to half of Mayweather’s payday once he receives his payout from pay-per-view.
“$32,000,000.00 for 36 minutes. I’m waiting for the PPV numbers to come in so I can make another $38,000,000.00 on the back-end… making it a grand total of $70,000,000.00,” Mayweather posted on his Instagram account.
Mayweather also posted a photo showing that he earned $14,815 per second, $888,889 per minute and $2,666,667 per round for the 12-round boxing match.
Although Mayweather did win on Saturday, many sports observers say the undefeated champion came closer to losing than any point in recent years. Maidana felt that he had won the fιght and booed once the decision was handed down. Mayweather won 117-111 on one scorecard and 116-112 on another.
“It was a tough, competitive fιght,” Mayweather said. “I normally like to go out there and box and move. But he put pressure on me. I wanted to give the fans what they wanted to see so I stood and fought him.”
Maidana threw his arms in the air, thinking he’d won, after the bell sounded.“I think I won the fιght,” Maidana said. “He didn’t fιght like a man.”
Mayweather attributed the close match to a cυt over his eye.
“I couldn’t see for two rounds after the head bυtt,” Mayweather said. “After I could see again it didn’t both me. That’s what champions do, they survive and adjust.”
Champions also make a lot of money.
Maidana says he wants a rematch and Mayweather says if that’s what the fans want, that’s what they’ll get.
