Boko Haram Kidnaps 2 Prominent Emirs In Borno

Fighters of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram have kidnapped two first class traditional rulers in Borno state – the Emir of Uba, Ismaila Mamza and the Emir of Gwoza, Idrisa Timta, Premium Times reports.

The emirs were said to be travelling this morning, May 30, 2014 to Gombe for the funeral of the Emir of Gombe, Shehu Abubakar who died of cancer on Tuesday at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London.

Insurgents, armed with guns, blocked the convoy of the Emirs at about 10am today and whisked the Emirs who were recently elevated to the First Class traditional ruler status.

Security sources have confirmed the incident. The Borno State government is yet to comment on the incident.

The deadly sect is responsible for the abduction 46 days ago of  over 200 female students of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno, an incident that has gained international attention and global action against terror.

UPDATE at 2pm on Friday, May 30, 2014

New reports reaching The Trent indicate that the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrissa Timta died during a shootout by the gunmen suspected to be members of the Islamist extremist sect, Boko Haram.

The emir of Uba narrowly escaped death, while many entourages of the emirs are still missing.

According to reports, the emirs of Gwoza and that of Uba were travelling in the same vehicle when the terrorists struck.

Gwoza Council Area is South and about 140 kilometres away from Maiduguri, while Askira /Uba is South and about 160 kilometres drive from Maiduguri.
