LONDON, England — American R&B artist Chris Brown has been arrested in the United Kingdom in connection with an alleged bottle attack on a music producer at a London nightclub in 2023.
Metropolitan Police confirmed that Brown, 36, was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
The incident under investigation occurred on February 19, 2023 at the Tape nightclub in Hanover Square, Mayfair.
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm,” a spokesperson for the Met Police said in a statement.
“He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
British tabloid The Sun reported it had alerted the Metropolitan Police after learning on Wednesday that Brown had flown into the UK by private jet.
Met officers reportedly travelled to Manchester to make the arrest.
The incident stems from allegations made by music producer Abe Diaw, who in 2023 told The Sun that Brown had struck him over the head with a bottle at the nightclub before continuing to punch and kick him while he was on the floor.
Mr Diaw claimed his knee collapsed during the altercation and that he required hospital treatment and crutches upon discharge.
Brown’s representatives have been approached for comment, but no official response has been issued as of Thursday afternoon.
The Grammy-winning singer, known for hits such as “Beautiful People,” “No Air,” and “Under the Influence,” rose to international fame in the mid-2000s.
He is currently on a UK tour, with multiple performances scheduled through June and July.
As of the time of reporting, Brown remains in custody.
