LONDON, England — R&B star Chris Brown has been released on bail after being formally charged in connection with an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub more than two years ago.
The incident, which reportedly took place in February 2023, involved Abraham Diaw, who accuses the singer of causing grievous bodily harm during a confrontation.
The 36-year-old Grammy-winning artist, known for hits like “Go Crazy” and “With You,” was arrested last week and later charged.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, London‘s Southwark Crown Court heard the bail application in his absence.
Presiding Judge Tony Baumgartner granted bail to Brown under strict conditions that will allow the singer to continue with his scheduled international tour, which includes upcoming dates in the United Kingdom in June and July.
As part of the bail terms, Brown is required to pay a £5 million security fee—equivalent to about $6.7 million—as a financial guarantee.
This sum, the court emphasised, could be forfeited if the singer fails to appear at any future hearings or breaches any of the conditions attached to his release.
The high value of the bail underscores both the seriousness of the charges and the need to ensure Brown’s continued cooperation with the legal process.
The court was told that the alleged assault took place in a West End nightclub, and that the victim sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment.
The case has attracted significant media attention, given Brown’s high-profile status and his prior history of legal troubles.
Despite his legal challenges, the singer remains a major international touring act with a dedicated fanbase and a packed concert schedule.
Judge Baumgartner noted that allowing Brown to tour while the case proceeds would not compromise the integrity of the legal process, provided the artist meets all bail requirements.
Further court dates are expected to be scheduled in the coming months as the case progresses.
