Any honest person will admit that he/she is sometimes displeased with their self. The reason is because we are not our self.
The self is the human body and mind that we are temporarily given for life on planet earth which is distinct from the real and permanent man which is the spirit that dwells in that body. Job 32:8 says “there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding”.
This means that your understanding comes from your spirit which must be connected to God. Thus, if you are not developing your spirit man by feeding it a spiritual diet of God’s Word, you cannot have understanding and you will not have internal peace because you will constantly live life to please your self and it is impossible to please the self. God created mankind to please Him and not to please themselves “for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created” – Revelations 4:11.
So consider this: If you cannot please yourself, how do you think it is possible to please other people?
