LAGOS, Nigeria — The Dangote refinery has announced it will commence direct nationwide supply of petrol on Monday, September 15, 2025, marking a major shift in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market.
In a post shared on its official X page on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the refinery said the initiative will initially cover 11 states before expanding nationwide.
The company disclosed that petrol will be sold at an ex-gantry price of ₦820 per litre.
The states listed for the rollout include Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Abuja, Delta, Rivers, Edo, and Kwara.
According to the statement, retail outlets in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti will receive petrol at ₦841 per litre, while outlets in Abuja, Delta, Rivers, Edo, and Kwara will purchase the product at ₦851 per litre.
“All petrol station owners nationwide are invited to register for free delivery and other benefits,” the refinery said in its post.
The move comes less than three months after Dangote refinery announced the acquisition of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered tankers to enhance its distribution network.
On Thursday, June 29, 2025, the company also projected that its national petroleum products distribution scheme could save Nigerians over ₦1.7 trillion annually through improved efficiency and reduced logistics costs.
The refinery, which is Africa’s largest single-train plant, has positioned itself as a key player in meeting domestic fuel demand, aiming to reduce Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imports.
Analysts say the direct supply mechanism could ease distribution bottlenecks and stabilise prices for consumers.
However, experts have also warned that the scheme may disrupt the existing downstream sector by undercutting independent marketers and depot operators who rely on intermediary supply chains.
The announcement signals a significant milestone for the Dangote refinery, which has been under close public scrutiny since its commissioning.
