LAGOS, Nigeria — Afrobeats star Davido has unfollowed Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo on Instagram following a leaked WhatsApp exchange in which she accused him of hypocrisy in the ongoing campaign for justice for the late singer Mohbad.
The fallout erupted after social media personality VeryDarkMan published screenshots of a private group chat that included critical comments by Ojo, a prominent figure in the “Justice for Mohbad” movement.
In the leaked messages, the actress expressed dismay at Davido’s continued online association with embattled artist Naira Marley—despite Davido’s public support for the justice campaign.
“My problem is not even with that black whatever, it is Davido who flew down like he claimed to fight for justice, but he still dey follow Naira Marley,” Ojo reportedly said.
“That means he was chasing clout. I’m so disappointed and to think he has been saying he is the only superstar artist who stood by Mohbad. Just fake love 001.”
Within hours of the leak going viral, fans noticed that Davido had unfollowed Ojo on Instagram.
As of Monday, August 4, 2025, the actress was still following the singer.
The disagreement between two prominent supporters of the “Justice for Mohbad” movement highlights growing tensions within the campaign, which began in September 2023 following the mysterious death of 27-year-old artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The young musician, who was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, died under controversial circumstances, triggering widespread protests and calls for an investigation.
An autopsy was ordered after his body was exhumed, in part due to public pressure driven by celebrities including Ojo and Davido.
Ojo, who was instrumental in organising candlelight vigils and online activism, later revealed in a media interview that she regretted the decision to advocate for an autopsy—calling it a painful but necessary move at the time.
