Ebola: Enyeama Insists That AFCON 2015 Be Suspended

Following all efforts to contain the deadly Ebola Virus in Africa, Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has advised that the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations be cancelled to contain the spread of the virus.

Enyeama who suggested that the tournament after considering the level of close contacts that is usually encounter on the pitch said that every player will be at risk of contracting the virus during the tournament.

“I really hope it doesn’t happen. It is risky, in Africa everyone is hugging you and shaking your hand.

“But if Caf says it will happen I will play – if Nigeria qualifies,” he told reporters on Friday, October 24, 2014.

Morocco, who is supposed to host the tournament have requested the Confederation of African Football to postpone the Saturday January 17, 2015 to Sunday, February 8 2015 event but the organisers have declined.

Moroccan and CAF are however set to meet on Monday, November 3, 2014 to discuss their request to postpone the tournament.

Meanwhile, Caf has already tipped South Africa, Ghana and up to five other countries about hosting the event should Morocco withdraw.
