As the number of deaths as a result of the dreaded Ebola virus rises alarmingly, especially in the West African sub-region, the Kwara state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has admonished the Kwara state government to take pro-active steps towards curbing the menace of the virus before it gets out of hand.
The message came considering the fact that Kwara state share boundaries with about five African countries which are quite susceptible to getting the virus from fellow West African countries.
In a press release signed by the publicity secretary of the Kwara state chapter of the PDP, Chief Rex K. Olawoye the party bemoans the lack of publicity and awareness by the state ;government even as a case has been reported in Lagos state.
In the press release, the party laments the fact that the government has not shown any interest in sensitizing the citizens about the virus instead of pursuing a second term campaign which the party terms “illusionary”
That said the party advises the governor, Mr Abdulfatah Ahmed to take a break from politics and look into the life and well-being of the citizens of the state in order to forestall an outbreak in the state.
Governor Ahmed is also admonished to follow the steps of Anambra, Kogi, Kano, Lagos and Edo state governments and create awareness as regards the dreaded Ebola virus.
While telling the governor to quit his campaign in the name of Town Hall meetings and convert the same to Ebola Public Enlightenment Platforms. (EPEP).
The Kwara state government has also been told to better equip the hospitals in the state to help the citizens get better treatment just as the PDP will next week begin an awareness campaign to enlighten the citizenry about the virus.
In conclusion, the Kwara state government is beckoned on to disregard political differences and build a common front as to fighting a menace capable of fatally infiltrating the populace.
