Ekiti 2026: APC Adopts Oyebanji after Rivals Withdraw from Race

ADO-EKITI, Nigeria — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.

The endorsement was announced on Monday, October 27, 2025, during a party meeting held in Ado-Ekiti.

The motion for Oyebanji’s adoption was moved by Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, and seconded by Stephen Aribasoye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

Speaking at the event, Usman Ododo, chairman of the APC congress committee, said the affirmation reflected Oyebanji’s “giant strides” in various sectors that have positively impacted the people of the state.

Ododo described the APC as “a party of discipline,” adding that the widespread support for the governor was a sign of the trust Ekiti residents had in his leadership.

The APC National Working Committee (NWC) had earlier ratified Oyebanji’s candidacy following the withdrawal of Atinuke Olayemi Omolayo, the only remaining contender after Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi were disqualified from the race.

Reacting to his endorsement, Governor Oyebanji commended APC members across the state for what he described as a demonstration of unity and discipline.

“You can see that our members are happy and united in one accord to exercise their franchise,” the governor said.

“In all the wards, delegates were elected by consensus — that speaks to the harmony between the leadership and membership of our party.”

Oyebanji said the APC had become stronger and more attractive since he assumed office nearly three years ago.

“In the last three years, we have made the party more appealing to the people. Many from other political parties have joined us because we have delivered on our promises,” he said.

Expressing confidence ahead of the polls, the governor declared that the APC was aiming for a clean sweep of all 177 wards in next year’s election.

“By the grace of God, our target on June 20 next year is to win all 177 wards — a record that has never been achieved in Ekiti State,” he said.
