Must read

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba,on Monday, February 2, 2o15 restated that all electoral offender caught will be duly dealt with, sounding a note of warning to politicians to refrain approaching police stations to seek the release of such offenders.

Speaking at a meeting with senior police officers at Force Headquarters, Abuja, Abba urged politicians to call their supporters to order to ensure a free and fair electoral process.

He said: “We are here to further strategise on how to allay the fears of members of the public, in particular that of the electorate with regards to the exercise of their franchise. I want to say without any hesitation that the police are prepared and would continue to do everything to provide security for the general public.

“Politicians should observe and assist law enforcement officers in making sure that violence do not take place; they should even hand over their members who are involved in violence. They should make resolution not to seek for the release of their members who are arrested for violence. All these are provided in their code of conduct; so, it is a collective responsibility of all.”
