WASHINGTON, USA — U.S. President Donald Trump has abruptly ended his participation in the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada to return to Washington, citing the rapidly escalating conflict between Israel and Iran as the reason for his early departure.
The decision followed a flurry of developments in the Middle East, including reports of explosions in Tehran and multiple air raid sirens sounding across Israeli cities.
Though no major damage has yet been confirmed in Israel, tensions remain high as military exchanges continue between the two rival nations.
Speaking shortly before his departure from Quebec, President Trump issued a stark warning: “Everyone must evacuate Tehran immediately,” signalling serious concern over the potential for further escalation in the Iranian capital.
Blasts were reported inwithin hours of Trump’s statement, though details of the incidents remain unclear.
Iranian authorities have yet to confirm the nature of the explosions.
Despite the urgency of the situation, senior U.S. officials have reiterated that the United States is not participating in the Israeli military campaign.
“The U.S. is not involved in the offensive operations,” a White House official said, emphasising that Washington’s immediate focus is on de-escalation and protecting American interests in the region.
President Trump has called for an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) upon his return to the White House.
The NSC is expected to assess the rapidly unfolding situation, including intelligence updates and potential implications for regional stability.
The latest conflict began following a dramatic Israeli airstrike on Iran’s state television headquarters in Tehran, which interrupted a live broadcast and drew sharp condemnation from Iranian officials and global observers.
The attack marked a significant intensification in hostilities between the two countries.
Meanwhile, global leaders at the G7 summit have expressed concern over the escalation and are expected to issue a joint statement urging restraint and diplomatic engagement.
As of press time, there has been no formal response from the Iranian government to Trump’s evacuation advisory.
The international community remains on high alert as fears of a broader conflict mount.
