Must read

Tragedy struck at Ungwar Sarkin Mata, Kagom district in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna when a boat carrying eight family members capsized and killed seven at the already flooded Kagom river on Friday, August 22, 2014.

The family were reportedly going to their farm to harvest their farm produce when the sad incident occurred.

According to a statement by a resident of the area identified as Bulus Musa,
“Kagom District share boundary with Sanga LGA. The killing of seven people was the major water mishap recorded in our area this year.

“This is what we go through every year. Many of such cases are hardly known. But even when reported, nothing is done about it,” he said.

“The challenge we have here is lack of a bridge. We need a bridge that will connect us with Sanga LGA, and adjoining areas, because people keep dying on this river trying to connect these places government must come to our aid. These poor farmers were on there way to farm but they  died,” Musa lamented.

Confirming the incident, the vice chairman of Jema’a LGA, Isiaka Ladan during a visit to the scene with officials of Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, described the incident as unfortunate.

He also disclosed that five corpses have been found, with  one survivor while emergency workers and locals were still searching for the remaining corpses.
