ABUJA, Nigeria — The Office of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister has issued a statement refuting media reports that claim FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike plans to invite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to investigate his predecessor, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, over alleged irregularities in contract awards.
The clarification was made in a statement released by Mr. Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press, Office of the FCT Minister, on Saturday, September 9, 223.
“We categorically state that these reports are baseless and without any merit,” the statement read. While the Minister has expressed concerns about some irregularities in the execution of various projects within the FCT, he has “at no point contemplated or authorized any action to invite the EFCC or ICPC to investigate the former FCT Minister,” the statement clarified.
The Office of the FCT Minister described the report as a “product of the imagination of its authors,” intended to “sow discord and confusion among the general public.”
“We view such misinformation with great concern and urge the public and well-meaning Nigerians to exercise caution when encountering such unfounded reports,” the statement added.
The release concluded by affirming Barr. Nyesom Wike’s commitment to “upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability in the discharge of his duties” and to the transparent administration of the Federal Capital Territory.
The statement advised the general public to disregard the story, calling it “a deliberate attempt to spread fake news and create unnecessary tensions.”
The prompt clarification aims to set the record straight and mitigate the impact of misinformation, a critical aspect in the era of fast-spreading news.
It underscores the need for the public to rely on official channels for accurate information, especially on sensitive issues involving governance and public figures.
