LAGOS, Nigeria — The Federal Government has announced a 21-day temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State, starting from 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, 18 May, 2025, to carry out urgent repair works.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, who explained that the repairs are aimed at improving the safety and functionality of the bridge for both motorists and pedestrians.
According to Kesha, the maintenance works will involve lifting sections of the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings, in addition to other critical structural repairs.
While some parts of the bridge will be completely closed, others will be partially accessible during the repair period.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but this is a necessary step to keep the bridge in good condition and ensure safety of all road users,” she said.
The Federal Ministry of Works has arranged for traffic diversions and confirmed that traffic management officials will be deployed to key points to direct vehicles and minimise disruptions.
“Safety signs and traffic management tools will be put in place to minimise disruption,” Kesha assured, adding that efforts have been made to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the repair period.
She urged residents, commuters, and local business owners to cooperate with traffic authorities and plan their movements accordingly.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank members of the public for their patience,” she added.
