ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day, an annual event honouring the contributions of the nation’s workforce.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an official statement released by the ministry.
Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their diligence, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to nation-building, describing their efforts as pivotal to Nigeria’s internal progress and global standing.
“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the minister stated.
Reaffirming the Tinubu administration’s commitment to security, governance, and economic reform under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tunji-Ojo urged workers to embrace innovation and productivity in their respective fields.
“This administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country,” the statement read.
He added that peace and stability are prerequisites for industrialisation and sustainable development, and called on workers to raise professional standards to enhance governance and ensure equitable distribution of national resources.
While wishing all workers a happy celebration, the minister encouraged citizens to “keep hope alive” and support government efforts aimed at economic revitalisation and inclusive growth.
