FG Declares Monday and Friday as Easter Public Holidays

ABUJA, Nigeria – The federal government has officially declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, as public holidays in celebration of Good Friday and Easter Monday.

The announcement was made by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, through a statement issued on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by Magdalene Ajani, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

Tunji-Ojo extended warm congratulations to Christians across the country, marking the significance of Easter as a time for reflection on the love and sacrifice demonstrated by Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection.

He encouraged citizens to take this occasion to reflect on the deeper meaning of these virtues, such as love, sacrifice, and redemption, which form the essence of the Christian faith.

The minister also emphasized the importance of using the Easter period as a time for prayer, specifically focusing on the peace, unity, and continued stability of Nigeria.

With ongoing efforts to foster national growth, Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to come together in prayer and solidarity, lifting the nation’s hopes for a prosperous future.

Moreover, Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing the administration’s dedication to the overall development and prosperity of Nigeria.
