Former US President Joe Biden Undergoes Radiation Therapy for Cancer

Must read

WASHINGTON, USA — Former United States President Joe Biden has begun radiation therapy as part of his ongoing treatment for prostate cancer, following a diagnosis earlier this year of an aggressive form of the disease that has spread to his bones.

Biden, 82, was diagnosed in May after consulting doctors about urinary symptoms.

His media aide, Kelly Scully, confirmed in a statement on Saturday, October 11, 2025, that the former president had started treatment.

“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” Scully said.

The diagnosis came months after Biden underwent Mohs surgery, a procedure used to remove cancerous cells from his skin.

The former president, who turns 83 next month, has a medical history that includes several cancer-related treatments.

In February 2023, doctors removed a basal cell carcinoma — a common form of skin cancer — from his chest.

Two years earlier, in November 2021, a polyp was removed from his colon; though benign, it was described as potentially pre-cancerous.

Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among men, particularly those over the age of 65.

Studies estimate that as many as 80 percent of men above 80 have some cancerous cells in their prostate gland.

After revealing his diagnosis in May, Biden addressed the public, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of concern.

“Cancer touches us all,” he said.

“I am deeply thankful for the love and support I have received.”

The former president’s personal connection to the disease runs deep.

His eldest son, Beau Biden, died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46 — a loss that has shaped much of Biden’s advocacy for cancer research and treatment.

Medical experts note that radiation therapy and hormone treatment are common interventions for advanced prostate cancer.

Radiation targets cancerous cells in affected areas, while hormone therapy lowers testosterone levels, slowing the disease’s progression.

Biden’s representatives said he remains “in good spirits” and continues to receive care from a team of oncologists in Washington.

The family has requested privacy as he undergoes treatment.
