Ganduje Claims NNPP Is ‘Dead,’ Predicts Kwankwaso’s Return to APC

ABUJA, Nigeria – Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is “dead” and that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, will soon return to the ruling APC.

Ganduje, speaking at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, during a meeting with members of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), dismissed the NNPP as a political threat to the APC.

“The NNPP is dead. And it will soon be buried; very, very soon. I’m looking at where we will bury the body. The coffin has already been constructed,” Ganduje said.

He added, “What remains now is to dig the grave. And already they are digging the grave very, very soon.”

The APC chairman’s comments come amid growing speculation about opposition coalitions forming ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

Ganduje confidently stated that such coalition talks would fail, asserting that they would not be able to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

He further suggested that Kwankwaso, who has struggled to maintain the NNPP’s influence, would eventually return to the APC.

“The so-called NNPP national leader, he too, if he says after losing everyone, he wants to come back to us, we will welcome him, because he is coming back home,” Ganduje remarked.

In addition to discussing the future of the opposition, Ganduje urged APC support groups to remain steadfast in their backing of the Tinubu administration, promising them increased inclusion in the party’s activities moving forward.

He also used the opportunity to inaugurate a six-man reconciliation committee for the three senatorial districts in Anambra, ahead of the upcoming governorship election in the state on November 8.

Earlier, during a visit to the residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna, Ganduje reiterated his stance that the proposed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections would ultimately fail.
