God Warned Me My Firstborn Would Die If I Left RCCG, Says Pastor Adeboye

MOWE, Nigeria — Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed that God once warned him that his firstborn child would die if he left the denomination where he was first called to ministry.

Adeboye made the disclosure during the June Holy Ghost Service held on Saturday at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State.

Themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2)”, the service drew thousands of worshippers from across the country.

Preaching on the subject of divine direction and spiritual consistency, Adeboye warned against the growing trend of church-hopping among young Christians, whom he said frequently move from one congregation to another.

“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said.

“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”

Recalling his early days in the church, Adeboye noted that RCCG was not well-known at the time and operated out of a modest facility in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Despite holding a position as a university lecturer, he said God instructed him to remain under the authority of his spiritual leader, who had no formal education.

“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he recounted.

He urged the congregation, particularly young people, to be spiritually sensitive and rooted in divine placement.

“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he said.

Adeboye emphasised that his statement was not an attempt to elevate the Redeemed Christian Church of God above other Christian denominations.

“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he clarified.

The remarks come just four years after Adeboye’s third son, Pastor Dare Adeboye, died unexpectedly in his sleep in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, on 4 May 2021.

At the time, the general overseer urged Christians not to grieve, saying his son was “resting in glory.”
