BENIN CITY, Nigeria — Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has removed Fred Itua as his Chief Press Secretary (CPS) and appointed Dr. Ebojele Akhere Patrick as his replacement, signalling what the administration described as a strategic shift in its communication approach.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday, December 4, 2025, by Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.

The statement said Itua would “await a new reassignment to be communicated in due course” after handing over to his successor.

Ikhilor described Ebojele as a renowned journalist, public administrator, researcher and lecturer with “an extensive and distinguished professional record in media practice, public affairs and academia.”

According to the statement, the governor expects the appointment to strengthen and deepen the state’s communication architecture.

“The new appointment reflects commitment of the present administration to strengthen and deepen the communication channels between the Government and the people of Edo State, ensuring clarity, transparency, and effective dissemination of Government policies, programmes, and activities,” it said.

Ebojele’s journalism career spans several major Nigerian media organisations.

He previously served as Edo/Delta correspondent for Channels Television and held reporting roles at the New Nigerian Newspaper, Champion Newspaper and Comet Newspapers.

He takes over from Itua, who served in the position earlier in Okpebholo’s administration.

The government expressed appreciation for Itua’s service, noting his contributions and commitment during his tenure.

The CPS role is a key position within the governor’s communication team, responsible for managing media relations, shaping public messaging and coordinating interactions between the government and the press.

Further details on Itua’s new assignment are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
