ENUGU, Nigeria — In a powerful act of patriotism and integrity, Prince Orji Ugochukwu, a young officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has earned national commendation for rejecting a ₦10 million bribe and assisting in the arrest of Levi Onyeka Obu — a social media personality turned suspect in a chilling case of kidnapping and ritual killings.
Obu, known online by aliases such as Ezeani, Ichie Billion, and the flamboyant “E Dey Play, E Dey Show,” had cultivated a following for his ostentatious lifestyle and lavish displays of wealth.
However, behind the persona, authorities allege a darker reality involving criminal acts tied to ritualistic killings and abductions.
Confirming the development, President of the Ugwumba Leadership Center for Africa, Uche Nwosu, hailed Ugochukwu’s courageous stand as a “rare act of national service” deserving wide recognition.
As a token of appreciation, the centre awarded Ugochukwu ₦1 million for his integrity and service.
“In a society like Nigeria, where the get-rich-quick syndrome is at its peak, I wish to commend Prince Orji Ugochukwu, who apprehended Mr. Levi Onyeka Obu, the accused kidnapper and ritualist, from Enugu State,” Nwosu stated.
“This young officer refused a mouth-watering offer of ₦10 million from the suspect and chose instead to uphold his duty to his country. That is what true leadership and patriotism look like.”
The arrest and subsequent revelation of Obu’s alleged crimes have sparked renewed public debate about the culture of wealth without traceable income, the glamorisation of questionable lifestyles on social media, and the moral vacuum often observed in public and private life.
Nwosu also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service for cultivating officers of discipline and moral uprightness.
He urged other security agencies to hold up Ugochukwu’s action as an example of the standards expected in public service.
“This act of patriotism is worthy of emulation by all public servants in the security sector,” he said.
“It’s high time we began to celebrate those who uphold integrity, even in the face of great temptation.”
Ugochukwu’s action has drawn widespread praise from civil society groups, religious leaders, and members of the public, many of whom are calling for formal recognition and promotion by the federal government.
The incident, they say, offers a rare glimpse of hope in a country plagued by corruption and dwindling ethical values.
The investigation into Levi Onyeka Obu’s alleged crimes is ongoing.
Security agencies have remained tight-lipped on the full scope of the case, but the arrest is being seen as a significant breakthrough in tackling criminal networks that exploit public gullibility and thrive on impunity.
“This is the kind of story we need,” one social commentator wrote on X. “The youth need role models who show that doing the right thing still matters in Nigeria.”
Concluding his statement, Nwosu added: “Together, we shall build a great country we shall all be proud of. God bless Nigeria!”
