The usually masked executioner, popularly known as “Jihadi John” who has appeared in several videos by the Islamic State (ISIS) and beheading western citizens has been identified to be Mohammed Emwazi from London.
Emwazi, who usually taunts audiences in his videos is said to come from a well-to-do family and grew up in West London.
He holds a college degree in computer programming and is believed to have traveled to Syria in 2012, where he joined up with ISIS.
A close friend of Emwazi who spoke to Washington Post anonymously said: “I have no doubt that Mohammed is Jihadi John. He was like a brother to me. . . . I am sure it is him.”
